Almost two year ago, Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi was brutally murdered in the by an assassination team supported by Mohammed bin Salman, the Crowned Prince of Saudi Arabia. This was followed by an international outcry by governments and human rights organizations as well as several investigations on the incident. Last month, the United States’ Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a report which implicated the Crown Prince as the primary decision maker behind Khashoggi’s murder. With this information in hand, the responsibility has fallen on the Biden administration to follow through on its campaign promises to bring accountability and administer justice on the Saudi regime. This is not only an important moment for international rule of law but also for protection of journalists and press freedom around the world.
