A new report published by Avaaz stated that misinformation about COVID-19 was twice as likely to stay up on Facebook if they were viewed Europe compared to the United States. Fifty six percent of such material — including false claims that face masks did not help to stop the spread of the virus — remained on Facebook's platform when targeted at its users in major non-English European languages. In response, Facebook said that it has removed millions of debunked social media posts, worked with government agencies to promote verified public health information, and has relied on outside fact-checking organizations to police potentially false claims on its global platform.
