Freedom of Signs: Does the First Amendment Protect Speech in Signs and Murals?

While most Americans know that they have a right to free speech, they often don’t realize that the Constitution protects their right to speak through signs.
The First Amendment protects both freedom of speech and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. But many small towns and municipalities have passed laws limiting both the amount of signs that can be posted on private property and the content of speech that can be displayed on these signs.
