The Local Journalism Sustainability Act of 2021 is a bipartisan bill in support of local newsrooms across the country. The bill has a three-tiered approach which addresses local news outlets, small businesses who advertise or provide sponsorships for local news, and subscribers of these newsrooms:

For local news organizations, the bill would provide a payroll tax credit which would creating an incentive to retain journalists.

For small business sponsors, the bill would provide a tax credit to business who work with local newspapers, websites, radio or TV

For subscribers, it would provide individual tax credits to help subsidize individual readers’ subscriptions to local news outlets.
