The Senate race in Georgia between democrat Raphael Warnock and republican Herschel Walker is neck in neck. Georgia law mandates that if neither candidate receives more than 50% of the votes cast, the two leading candidates will enter a runoff election four weeks after midterm election day, on December 6th.
Becoming a swing state in recent years, elections in Georgia are notoriously tight. Both current Georgia senators (Warnock and Jon Ossoff) participated in runoffs in 2020 before ultimately winning election. The Senate split under the first half of the Biden administration was largely due to Warnock and Ossoff's election victories.
Why does it matter?
If Georgia has its projected runoff elections and you are a Georgia voter, this is your chance to make your voice heard in who represents your state in the Senate.
The winner of this Senate race will likely determine which party controls the Senate; this race will largely influence and determine the legislative agenda for the remainder of this term of the Biden administration.
What can you do?
Support your preferred candidate in the runoff election between Warnock and Walker by signing up for a phone-banking session to help mobilize voters. Phone banking events will roll out in the first few days following the November 8th midterm elections.
Increase voter accessibility and volunteer to drive voters to the polls on December 6th for the runoff.
Participate in the runoff by requesting a mail-in ballot if you are a Georgia voter living out of state.
Ensure that you are consuming verified election media and check your sources for mis-, dis-, and mal-information (MDM.)
