WE HAVE FOUR GRANDKIDS, WHO ARE VERY CLOSE TO US AND INTERACT WITH US REGULARLY. THE TWO YOUNGEST (2 AND 4 YEARS) ARE IN PRESCHOOL. THE TWO OLDER ONES ARE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL (KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE). THE SCHOOL CHILDREN (PRESCHOOLERS INCLUDED) HAVE TO BE PROTECTED FROM GETTING CORONAVIRUS AND DOVID-19. HOWEVER, THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO CURB THE SPREAD OF COVID-19. MY HUSBAND AND I (SENIOR CITIZENS AGED 69 AND 70) ARE AT HIGHER RISK OF BECOMING INFECTED ON ACCOUNT OF OUR AGE AND THE FACT THAT WE ARE A SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR THEIR PARENTS. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED THAT IF THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN BEFORE PUSHING FOR THE RETURN TO SCHOOL, SENDING CHILDREN TO SCHOOL TOO SOON WILL BE DISASTROUS. THE PRESIDENT AND HIS COHORTS DECISION TO REOPEN SCHOOLS WILL AGGRAVATE THE SPREAD OF COVID-19, ESPECIALLY TO THE ELDERLY. AT THIS STAGE, THERE ARE NO CLEAR INDICATIONS THAT THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS THAT WILL CURTAIL THE SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS HAVE BEEN PUT IN PLACE. WHEN THE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS HAVE BEEN EXECUTED, THEN SCHOOLS CAN REOPEN UNDER SAFE CONDITIONS THAT WILL NOT LEAD TO A SPIKE IN THE SPREAD OF THE CORONAVIRUS.
