    The misuse of federal quasi-military force in Seattle, and beginning in other cities, is such a reminder of the excessive force during the civil rights protests of the mid-1960s and the abject lack of responsible policies or guidance from the White House has tarnished the reputation of the United States throughout the world. We are seeing a US response to peaceful protests that looks no different than what China is doing in Hong Kong. We have lost any humanitarian credibility we once had.
