The Founding Fathers were long dead when In God We Trust became our motto. Their motto, still atop the Capitol dome on the Statue of Freedom, was E Pluribus Unuum. That motto brings us together. Whereas, the message of In God We Trust is not clear. For example, does it include atheists or the numerous gods of American Hindus? Also, a Founding Father might ask: what are we asking God to do for us? Will it teach kids that "We the People" can't govern ourselves anymore?
