As a former resident, emergency organizer and researcher in sub Saharan Africa, this crisis will affect African communities more profoundly. In a majority of communities African people live in close proximity, many people living in small spaces, and relying on community support to survive. Medical equipment is constantly in short supply. As are hospital beds. Social distancing in village communities is not realistic. Lockdown is not realistic when water collection, small holder farming, local trading, fuel collection for cooking fires, all require being outside the home. My thoughts are with them.
